Students may receive major credit for courses taken at other institutions. It is critical that any student hoping to receive such credit receive pre-authorization from the psychology department’s advisor for study away course approver. Professor Kris Kirby is the course approver for study-away programs for 2024-2025.
To submit courses for consideration, you must complete this form which asks for information about your study away program and up to 5 courses to consider for major credit. For each course, you must upload a syllabus. If a current syllabus is not available, you can submit a recent syllabus or a detailed course description — however, determination based on anything other than a current syllabus should be considered provisional until a current syllabus is provided. Once you have submitted your form, the study away course approver will contact you to discuss how any proposed courses might count.
Students may received credit for 200-level or 300-level electives. They may not receive credit for PSYC 201 or as a substitute for a 400-level seminar. Students may not receive credit for the empirical laboratory requirement (i.e., 300-level laboratory courses). Study away courses that are survey in nature and rely primarily on secondary sources (e.g., textbooks, review articles) typically substitute at the 200-level. Study away courses that are discussion seminars and rely primarily on primary source material (e.g., peer-reviewed journal articles) typically substitute at the 300-level.
Students are encouraged to discuss their plans with the study away advisor at any time as they consider study-abroad options.
